Evening all,

I was in the fortunate position of retiring in 2014 at (CM IOSH) and would never have imagined filling in another audit, induction or risk assessment.

However i find myself in a strange predicament whereby an animal charity in Spain (The one on Bargain Brits in the Sun) near where i live has asked my to be their H&S Manager on a free gratis pay plan ;)

So..... My membership Lapsed in 2014, I never bothered taking up the retired route as at the time I believe you needed to continue CPD and really I had no intention of doing nothing else but fishing and growing chillies.

Therefore I find myself in a predicament for a professional membership.

1.  Do I apply to IOSH to renew my membership at whatever status they deem necessary, I have actually started CPD again.

2. Is IOSH a recognised body in Spain.

3. IF not IOSH, then who for EU activities.... I think a small thing like brexit got in the way.

4. Does anyone have any guidance / safe syetems of work on dog handling, especially dangerous prohibited dogs like Dogo Argentino (yes we have one in the Rescue (although poor chap is isolated like Hanibal Lecteur and not banned in spain), I am just trying to write risk assessments on the only dangerous breed i know, Bricklayers.... So some type of info would be great, I appreciate its a very specialist subject.

All the best Guys

And thanks for reading my drivle

Morning Ross

Seems like you have got the job, so why worry about ANY professional membership?

Unless IOSH were to bend its rules, my understanding is that if you were to reapply you would start at the bottom of the ladder - Associate.

IOSH would, I think, be unlikely to retrospectively grant you Retired CMIOSH status partly as one of the rules for having that is that you are retired and not earning.

...though I suppose they might suggest that you pay nine years of outstanding fees and then reinstate you at CMIOSH if you could come up with some sort of backdated CPD record - remember that CPD can be done outside work if it helps you with what you do IN work.

I guess that IOSH has been noticed by some in Spain but I very much doubt that IOSH has many members there, not least since it has never decided to launch a Branch on the European mainland.

Not sure who might be a more recognised equivalent, except that IIRSM does have a European Branch, but I imagine that there are probably more readily recognised parallel bodies.

Dangerous dogs are not my forte!

Good luck, Peter

Chartered Member was the only professional membership recognised by the EU.

As to the law and arrangements in Spain EU OSHA would be a decent starting place

Thanks Peter and Roundtuit,

Its a non paid voluntary position, dunno if that matters so wont be earning anything

I have contacted OSHA Europa but no reply as yet.

Why I was wanting a status reinstated is there alot of busy bodies out here who re-invent their past when they get the ryanair flight over, I dont want to be one of those.

Cheers again Guys ill let you know how i get on

Ross
