Hi all,
Advice is needed. Hearing abnormalities have been identified during hearing assessment in addition to the recommendation made above (satisfactory with recommendation- periodic health surveillance – time frame - one year). The Occ Health Technician has recommended to complete a risk assessment on site to ensure Mr X can hear any necessary safety alarms and instructions? Has anyone come across such a recommendation before? Any specific guidance will be greatly appreciated.

I haven't been asked such a thing before, but it does seem perfectly reasonable. I would expect to go about it by identifying the things that Mr X would need to hear (such as fire alarms) and then either asking or checking in a test or drill whether he does hear each of them when they happen. I wouldn't try to put this in a risk assessment format but just find out and record the hearing of not of each warning sound and then determine whether anything needs to be done to follow up on the findings.

...having done these I would say that is a wee bit extreme for a mild hearing impairment (HSE Cat2 - 12 months)...unless there is a clear threshold shift between that test and the last one...agree not a risk assessment...retest in 12 months and see what the outcome is...normall noise precautions apply in the meantime..
