Posted By John Allen Does anyone have a source of information on safety, especially of spectators, at indoor sporting events held in village halls, school halls and the like? I know the HSE has recently issued guidance but this seems to be mainly aimed at rock concerts and large scale sporting events like football matches.

Posted By Ken Taylor Whilst there may not be a need for an entertainment licence, your local authority licensing people (probably Environmental Health Department) may have a standard list of licence conditions that would be of help. Personally, I do refer to the new 'Event Safety Guide' (HSG195)and 'Managing Crowds Safely' (HSG154)- so far as applicable.

Posted By Ed Carter I agree with the previous respondent. Additionally, the Stationary Office produce 'Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds' Although more than you require I found that by adapting and downsizing the advice it contains it will do the business for indoor sporting events as well. I stress that you will need to adapt to the activity, size of venue and number of persons, taking part or spectating. Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds ISBN 0-11-300095-2, From the Stationary Office or their accredited agents. Good Luck, Ed £15:00

Posted By Ken Taylor Generally the same guidance literature will be applicable and you will need to liaise with the highway authority, fire authority, Building Control (for structures) and, possibly, Planning - depending upon the length of time that the 'village' will last.
