There is a European directive which relates to the use of display screen equipment, so all of the European member states will have legislation covering the use of VDUs.

I say the use of VDUs as the primary purpose of the legislation is to prevent upper limb disorders.

There are minimum standards for furniture etc, but the primary focus is on the ergonomics of VDUs

If you want more details you could check out the web site www.safety-now.co.uk and look either under legislation for the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 or you could look in the quick guides section under ergonomics.
