How do you assess the effectiveness of hearing protection when using equipment such as ultrasonic welders where noise is predominantly in the 16 KHz octave-band centre frequency?

Dear Maria,
Use an Octave Band Frequency Analyser, measure the Sound Pressure Levels in each of the Octave Bands.
From the sound pressure level measurements, subtract the A weighting corrections if necessary and the mean plus one standard deviation attenuation. The mean and standard deviation are given by the manufacturer of the hearing protection.
Sum the resulting attenuated noise levels in all of the octave bands and you can ascertain whether the noise protection is adequate.

Thanks for your comments, however so far I have been unable to obtain hearing protection attenuation data from the manufacturers for the 16 kHz band. I have the 125-8000 KHz, H, M, L and SNR values, can these be used in calculations for noise in 16 KHz band?
