Rubber matting in Electricity Switch Rooms.

Posted By John Usher The rubber matting on our switch room floors is causing a tripping hazard by bubbling up, curling at the edges etc. There does not appear to be anything in the Electricity at Work Regs. 1. Does the rubber matting have to be of a certain standard for insulation purposes? 2. Any other ideas to eradicate the problem? Many thanks John

Posted By Ken Taylor I seem to remember it being BS 921 - but others may have more up-to-date information. The Memorandum of Guidance refers to insulating mats or stands as protective measures that may be taken during live-working (- but only when it is both unreasonable for it to be live and reasonable to work with it live and suitable precautions taken). Thick and heavy is usually better than soft and floppy when it comes to rubber mats!
