What is the definition of "Hazardous Waste"?

All wastes are potentially harmful but are defined as hazardous by the EPA if, for example, they are highly flammable, toxic or carcinogenic. This includes wastes from:
industrial chemical processes
oil refining
metals processes
solvents
waste oils
some clinical waste
asbestos

Any type of waste is a potentially hazardous waste which could lead / result in ill health of human beings, damage of fauna, animals, plants, earth, etc.

These are those listed in
a) Special Waste Regs 1996 schedule 2
b) Council Directive 91/689/EEC Annexes
Essentially they are ecotoxic or biotoxic substances as provided in these lists
