I also hold a university degree in occupational and public health. Would anyone care to give me some advice or tips on working abroad? Is there a demand for health and safety professionals Europe? Posted By James White Asif; I am a Canadian safety professional working in Barbados. The work is out there, you need to identify specifically what you are looking for. For example gaining employment in the UK may be difficult if you cannot get sponsored by an employer whereas in Australia I believe they implemented a new immigration program where your education, skill and age makes immigration possible under their skills demand program. Second issue I thing you need to address is expanding your work sector. At the end of the day safety is safety, risk exposure is risk exposure. Where most employers get hung up is understanding what you know and translating that into their language. Are JHA's really any different in the mining, construction, oil and gas or municipal works - no but the language that each industry speaks is and that is what most organizations hang a professionals qualifications on. Anyhow thats my two cents worth.

Posted By Nic Crosland Asif - Have you considered an excahnge program for a short period of time, to see if working in the UK is what you want. I currently work as a health and safety inspector in local government with simular skills/qualifications, and am thinking of jobs in Canada. I may be able to persuide my employer to consider an exchange program. In principal is it something your current employer would consider.

Posted By Asif Janmohamed Nic, Thanks for the posting. The position I currently work in is in Human Resources. It is very different from the health and safety inspector postion you mentioned. The position involves aspects of disability management, worker’s compensation, employee assistance, attendance support, among many other programs. To explain it a little better, is more stragtegic than operational. I am very well aware of the health and safety inspectors in Ontario, who work for the Ministry of Labour. I would suggest that you contact them and suggest an exchange program, as those are the positions that would have a very similar skill set as you. Their website is: http://www.labour.gov.on.ca/.

Posted By sonshine personally, it's overcrowded, but then i didn't grow up here so i'm more for the open spaces and breathing room etc. i came over to UK because Zim was falling apart and time has proven that it was a good move at the time. so as there's very little to go back there for.....
