Hi all,

Last year we announced that IOSH was working in partnership with the publishers of SHP magazine to develop a new online careers service for members. This service is now available at www.SHP4jobs.co.uk.

We’ve listened to all your comments and suggestions, and included a range of new features to make your career development even easier:

- Apply for jobs quickly and easily online
- Create your own short-list of jobs as you browse
- Sign up for automated job alerts
- Terms of use based on opt-ins
- Upload and store up to five CVs in your personal area
- Create your own custom search criteria with the ‘search builder’
- Keep track of your application history with your saved profile
- See how your salary compares with the salary checker
- Access a selection of careers advice articles
- Registration for recruiters discouraging timewasters

Recruiters also have access to a range of new online services which ensure immediate online placement of advertisements with no magazine lead-times:

- Advertise your non-permanent vacancies online for the low cost of £200
- Add your company profile to SHP4jobs and attract the best candidates to your vacancies
- Maximise exposure of your vacancies with a downloadable ‘job cast’
- Choose from a range of banner advertising opportunities across all pages of the site
- For further advertising information, please call Bryn McGeever on +44(0) 20 7560 4227

The IOSH careers forum will continue to provide its current service, enabling newcomers to careers in health and safety, as well as more experienced practitioners to discuss your career path and indicate your availability for work.

We hope that both members and health and safety recruiters find these new features useful.

Many thanks,

Neal Clark,
Web Co-ordinator

Hmmm... nice, but ...

It is rather infuriating that the "Results per page" keeps deferring back to 10. Glitch I suspect. Select 50 per page, it works ... click "next" and it reverts to 10.

More points:
In search I would like to be able to select more than one job title, as no-one uses a common description - that saves several different searches or one all inclusive search.

Why so many descriptions anyway?

I would like to exclude construction. Can that be added at the Public/Private sector selection?

I would like to exclude jobs below a certain salary.

Hello Tabs,

Thank you for your feedback - always very welcome.

The 'Job Search Builder' option under the 'Find a Job' tab will address some of the points you have raised. This function allows you to select more than one category to search. It also allows you to include or exclude certain keywords (i.e. in your case you can select 'Must not have Construction').

The range of job titles listed has been primarily driven by an analysis of the titles of jobs advertised within SHP over the recent years and the results of SHP's readership survey. If you are looking for employment within a specific sector or market, the keyword search will assist you in finding appropriate vacancies.

We will continue to develop the functionality of the site and any suggestions are always welcome. There is a Site Feedback option on the SHP4jobs site which we would be most grateful if you would use as this will allow us to log all your comments and suggestions - alternatively you can e-mail us at info@shp4jobs.co.uk.

Best regards,

Adrian Newton

Had some problems with some links (initial gremlins I suppose). Can see it will provide some value. I would point out that notification of the existence of the site has been sent today but having spent 20 minutes on the site, there are a number of the published vacancies that have expired. is it the intention of SHP to update daily or will it be monthly as with the SHP Mag?

Hello Ian,

If a job advertisement states a deadline date than the vacancy should automatically be removed once this date passes. Advertisements without a deadline date will normally stay live for 8-10 weeks unless the advertiser requests otherwise.

At the moment the site is primarily populated with the positions advertised within SHP magazine so currently you will see a large number of new vacancies posted on a monthly basis. However advertisers can ask for jobs to go up on our site immediately and a function also exists for regular advertisers to directly upload their vacancies onto the site. We have also introduced a cost effective on-line only option for short term and contract positions - these will also go up on the site immediately. Consequently as the site develops we expect to see an increasing number of vacancies appearing on a daily basis.

Once again, can I please request that you do use the Site Feedback option (located in the top and bottom tool bars) to report any glitches you come across - if we don't know about them we can't fix them. We are very grateful for all your assistance.

Best regards,

Adrian Newton

Thanks for your comments on the site. I can confirm that there has been a problem with the user feedback button, which should be rectified today.

Further update on SHP4Jobs.co.uk - the problem highlighted with the search reverting to 10 results has been isolated and will also be rectified today.

Thanks

Moderators - Surely this should be moved to the members only area where it can die off quietly!!

Why is the list of jobs that the search produces limited to 150? This precludes a full list of all jobs that have been posted in the last 7 days at the moment which I think is running at 168.
