I showed similar interest and i got a reply from Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS). There is no one centralized agency in Canada to dictate requirements for recognizing training or all professional qualifications in OH&S. Generally speaking, though, the CANADIAN REGISTERED SAFETY PROFESSIONALS (CRSP) designation is well-recognized throughout Canada. I am attaching the info that was sent to me. Hope it is helpful.
Companies may chose to look for individuals who can by some means prove that they have the OH&S knowledge and competence that the company seeks by virtue of having on-the-job experience or having taken the kind of training that fulfils the terms of employment established by the company. Companies will determine whether they seek someone with a diploma or a certificate level of training according to their particular needs at the time. One is not necessarily "better" than the other.
Technical staff suggest that, depending on which OH&S specialty you wish to pursue, there are several professional associations or agencies that you may wish to contact in order to discuss educational qualifications and pay scales related to particular job classifications:
