Posted By Navin Ragoo Good day, I showed similar interest and i got a reply from Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS). There is no one centralized agency in Canada to dictate requirements for recognizing training or all professional qualifications in OH&S. Generally speaking, though, the CANADIAN REGISTERED SAFETY PROFESSIONALS (CRSP) designation is well-recognized throughout Canada. I am attaching the info that was sent to me. Hope it is helpful. Companies may chose to look for individuals who can by some means prove that they have the OH&S knowledge and competence that the company seeks by virtue of having on-the-job experience or having taken the kind of training that fulfils the terms of employment established by the company. Companies will determine whether they seek someone with a diploma or a certificate level of training according to their particular needs at the time. One is not necessarily "better" than the other. Technical staff suggest that, depending on which OH&S specialty you wish to pursue, there are several professional associations or agencies that you may wish to contact in order to discuss educational qualifications and pay scales related to particular job classifications: CANADIAN SOCIETY OF SAFETY ENGINEERING (CSSE) 39 River Street Toronto ON M5A 3P1 (416) 646-1600 Fax: (416) 646-9460 E-mail: csseinfo@associationsfirst.com Internet: http://www.csse.org/ BOARD OF CANADIAN REGISTERED SAFETY PROFESSIONALS (BCRSP) 6519-B Mississauga Road Mississauga ON L5N 1A6 (905) 567-7198 or toll-free 1-888-279-2777 Fax: (905) 567-7191 E-mail: bcrsp@sympatico.ca Internet: http://www.bcrsp.ca/ Please note the BCRSP's Careers page at: http://www.bcrsp.ca/careers/careers.html The Government of Canada's web page on Job Futures, Labour Market Information (LMI) and Career Planning at: http://jobfutures.ca/en/home.shtml provides links to web pages that have information on occupations, wages, job outlooks, etc. For instance, there is the following profile: Other Technical Inspectors & Regulatory Officers (NOC 226) http://jobfutures.ca/noc/226.shtml The Alberta Learning Information Service has a service called "Occupational Information (OCCINFO)" that contains more than 500 occupational profiles outlining the work and responsibilities involved with each occupation, plus education and training requirements, salary range, etc. OCCINFO can be found at the following address: http://www.alis.gov.ab.ca/occinfo/frameset.asp For instance, the following "Occupational Profiles" may be of interest to you. Occupational Health & Safety Inspectors (NOC 2263) http://www.alis.gov.ab.ca/occinfo/Content/ Safety Officer (NOC 2263) http://www.alis.gov.ab.c...ntent/RequestAction.asp? Safety Codes Officer (NOC 2264) http://www.alis.gov.ab.c...ntent/RequestAction.asp?
