Posted By David White I’m currently completing a fire risk assessment for a workshop and trying to find out what the minimum distance is from one point, to an exit point, “or an open space”, which I think is how it is quoted. Any help welcome

Posted By Robert K Lewis David I trust that you mean maximum distances. If so graeme's figures are about OK providing you don't recognise a High Fire Risk for the area. If so the travel for a dead end comes down to about 10m and the others can be roughly halved. Bob

Posted By Ken Taylor Take a look at Table 3 of Approved Document B1 to the Building Regulations - which whilst applicable to new-build may be taken as providing guidance for existing buildings. Eg: Maximum Travel Distances Offices 1 direction: 18m More than 1: 45m Shop & Commercial 1 dir: 18m More: 45m Industrial/storage 1 dir: 25m More: 45m Special fire hazard 1 dir: 9m More: 18m etc. There are other examples and it is notable that direct distance is taken as 2/3 travel distance when internal layout is unknown.
