I’m currently completing a fire risk assessment for a workshop and trying to find out what the minimum distance is from one point, to an exit point, “or an open space”, which I think is how it is quoted.
Any help welcome

Posted By Graeme Main Hello David,
The travel distance to storey exits we use on our risk assessments are as follows.
One direction only to exit Shops, offices, warehouses (18m) Industrial (25m).
More than one direction to exits Shops (30m)offices,warehouses,Industrial (45m).
Hope this is of some help to you regards graeme.

Posted By Robert K Lewis David I trust that you mean maximum distances. If so graeme's figures are about OK providing you don't recognise a High Fire Risk for the area. If so the travel for a dead end comes down to about 10m and the others can be roughly halved.

Posted By Ken Taylor Take a look at Table 3 of Approved Document B1 to the Building Regulations - which whilst applicable to new-build may be taken as providing guidance for existing buildings.
Eg: Maximum Travel Distances
Offices 1 direction: 18m More than 1: 45m Shop & Commercial 1 dir: 18m More: 45m Industrial/storage 1 dir: 25m More: 45m Special fire hazard 1 dir: 9m More: 18m etc.
There are other examples and it is notable that direct distance is taken as 2/3 travel distance when internal layout is unknown.
