Posted By James Andrew Scott My company is moving a department temporarily into an unused building on our site. there are 15 people in the dept. The area has a set of male toilets but no female toilets. Is there a legal requirement to have separate male/female toilets. the department are happy to use the facilities as they are. The building will be demolished in less than a year so big spending is out. Anyone know the answer to this please? James

Posted By shaun allport James, As previous, workplace regs 92 as long as you are able to lock the door its ok......... though a word of caution, set the standard of cleanliness, it may sound trivial but it can be a potenial disagreement between male / female... but how its policed god knows??? not being sexist folks!

Posted By CJ Shaun, I can't remember where i read that exactly as it was some time ago but the workplace regs alude to it. '20(c) Separate rooms containg conveniences are provided for men and women'-This is the normal male and female toilets. 'except where and so far as each convenience is in a separate room the door of which is capable of being secured from the inside' - This aludes to a unisex toilet like a disabled toilet as it says 'each convenience' meaning 1 convenience in the room, the word 'seperate room' is used which shouldn't be confused with a cubicle, as a cubicle could never be called a room. Hope this is clear, i have a feeling it isn't though
