I'm looking for a bit of clarification if possible. I vaguely recall reading somewhere that Fixed Electrical Wiring must be tested every 5 years. Is that ACOP, Regulation, or just a proactive approach?

Hi
Its recommended by the NIECEI (or what ever the initails are - mental block) people, 5 years for office type premises, 2 for commercial/industrial units. I think.
Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

Fantastic, we are office with warehouse, so I believe the 5 years would apply. Good to know that I didn't pull it out of the air. Thanks.

Hi
It is clearly stated in the IEE book BS1761 the times required by law , which unfortunately I don,t have to hand.
You could try and ask on Screwfix Electrical forum for an answer as any electrician will have the required info.
Hope it helps

There aren't any specified times by law, but there are a number of recommendations for frequency. One of which is 5 years for periodic testing of a fixed installtion in a low risk environment.
A straightforward warehouse with offices but no workshops, a modern electrical installation and a low risk of damp or damaged or abused or overloaded electrics, would generally be low risk.

That sounds about right. if you can get your hands on the original certificate of installations it will also state the date of retesting.
Thats where I'd look first, hope that helps.

Evening folks.
How come no-one has mentioned the electricity at Work Regs yet? The EaW require the same thing that all other H&S Regs require - a risk assessment that leads to an evaluation of what level of test at what frequency [sory about the pun] will be appropriate for your installation in your work environment.
No risk assessment to defend your choice of period and type of test means that you could be deemed not to comply!!
All of the other stuff is nothing but guidance - and not even HSE Guidance at that.
