Hi

I know the 1st and 2nd action levels will reduce by 5db and that the daily noise dose will be set at 87dB, but can anyone tell me if the current peak exposure level of 140dB(200 Pascals) will be reduced when the new directive is introduced next year?

Thanks
Chris

The peak limit value will be 140 dB(C); see Reg 4(3) at http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2005/20051643.htm

In effect, the peak level will be reduced. in addition to the action levels of 80 and 85 dB(A) expressed as 8hr TWA, there will be two corresponding peak action levels of 135 and 137 dB(C). Thus where the peak level exceeds the upper action level of 137dB(C) hearing protection will be mandatory regardless of the 8hr TWA.
