Posted By Robert Paterson Can anyone form HQ tell me where we are in relation to letters and certificates with regard to 'chartered status'. I became an RSP in June this year and was told at the time that I would automatically become CMIOSH in November although my submission of CPD is not due until June 2006. As of today date I have not heard anything form IOSH about chartered status. Is there anyone else in this situation. I read on the mebership forum that there is some concern that people have not heard yet. I appreciate that the figure of 6,000 members have become chartered and it may take sometime to get round everyone, but is it feasible to use the 'CMIOSH' before receiving the certificate. Posted By David A Jones I thought you had to have completed a CPD cycle before you could be CMIOSH but in the interim could retain the designation MIOSH RSP - i stand to be corrected though.

Posted By Norman Walton New Chartered certificates together with a letter from the President and including a lapel badge are now in the post to all those installed as 'Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner's'with effect from 17th November 2005. The post nominal designation of FIOSH,RSP and MIOSH,RSP are now defunct and have been replaced by CFIOSH and CMIOSH, respectively. All Chartered Fellows and Charterd Members may describe themselves (in full - without any form of abbreviation) as 'Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner' on their business card.

Posted By Alison Melrose I recently joined IOSH (back in June after completing the PG Certificate course at Strathclyde Uni). I was sent the MIOSH certificate in September of this year. I was under the impression I would need to complete a "cycle" of CPD before I get CMIOSH - is this correct? Cheers

Posted By Crim For information to Karen, I too received my new certificate in the post on Saturday and mine was damaged by the pin of the badge which put a hole through the certificate, letter and envelope. Not to worry though as the membership department sent me another certificate on Tuesday, you only have to ask. I now have 2 certificates!!!!!!

Posted By Kieran J Duignan I shared scepticism about 'the badge' until this morning when I visited a small firm to meet the directors for a discussion about enabling them to comply systematically with employment, health and safety law for the first time in the 12 years of the company's history. My display of the CMIOSH and CIPD badges provided them with assurance that they were likely to get value for money. As far as I could establish, neither of the directors had ever had a business conversation before with a member of either institute. I believe that both badges provided sufficient evidence for them to realise that members of the IOSH and of the CIPD can be straightforward guys more concerned about helping them to run a profitable business legitimately, than they had imagined. While both badges brought out smiles, they resonated with the values of those I wanted to influence today.
