Can anyone form HQ tell me where we are in relation to letters and certificates with regard to 'chartered status'. I became an RSP in June this year and was told at the time that I would automatically become CMIOSH in November although my submission of CPD is not due until June 2006.
As of today date I have not heard anything form IOSH about chartered status.
Is there anyone else in this situation. I read on the mebership forum that there is some concern that people have not heard yet. I appreciate that the figure of 6,000 members have become chartered and it may take sometime to get round everyone, but is it feasible to use the 'CMIOSH' before receiving the certificate.
Please feel free to contact me direct on robert.paterson@jeyes.co.uk

You would have got the Chartered status on the 17th November and the certificates are being sent out. I received my certificate on Saturday.
I hope this helps.

I thought you had to have completed a CPD cycle before you could be CMIOSH but in the interim could retain the designation MIOSH RSP - i stand to be corrected though.

If you were an RSP before November 17th you automatically became a CMIOSH on the 17th November.

New Chartered certificates together with a letter from the President and including a lapel badge are now in the post to all those installed as 'Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner's'with effect from 17th November 2005. The post nominal designation of FIOSH,RSP and MIOSH,RSP are now defunct and have been replaced by CFIOSH and CMIOSH, respectively. All Chartered Fellows and Charterd Members may describe themselves (in full - without any form of abbreviation) as 'Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner' on their business card.

I got my Certificate on Saturday.
Unfortunately despite it saying PLEASE DO NOT BEND in large red letters on the front of the envelope our postman folded the envelope in half to put it through our letter box. So my certificate has a very large crease down the centre, (as well as what I assume are indentations from the badge) which rather spoilt the excitment of the occaison, just as well I was not intending to frame it and hang it on the wall!

I recently joined IOSH (back in June after completing the PG Certificate course at Strathclyde Uni). I was sent the MIOSH certificate in September of this year.
I was under the impression I would need to complete a "cycle" of CPD before I get CMIOSH - is this correct?
Cheers

For information to Karen, I too received my new certificate in the post on Saturday and mine was damaged by the pin of the badge which put a hole through the certificate, letter and envelope.
Not to worry though as the membership department sent me another certificate on Tuesday, you only have to ask. I now have 2 certificates!!!!!!

Further to the above, I just thought that it's just as well the postman didn't hurt himself on the sharp and dangerous pin sticking through the envelope or IOSH would be receiving a claim for compo?

Haven't got mine yet. Really can't believe we are getting badges as well. Does this mean that CPD is becoming more in line with the Scouts?

Really had to revive this thread as I am also wondering where the idea that we all desparately wanted a lapel badge came from. It seems to be something that has crept in with one of my local groups giving them on payment of subscription. Do we have traces of abjection, in the Kristevan sense, creeping in here as we fear the fall into the vaste nothingness of the Archaic Mother, and thus loss of self?

If 'C's are aligned to scouts does that mean salaries and consultant's fees will standardise at "Bob-A-Job"?

At least we have the badge to show who we are so when do I get my Job Card? Also are we only allowed to work one week a year?
Actually I think mine is lost already!!

I too am wondering where to stick my badge (no suggestions please) as i don't as a rule wear a lapel. Maybe I could have a tattoo on my forehead instead,

Robert,
You should have left it pinned through your certificate like the rest of us!

Hi Everyone
Pleased to report that my 'chartered status' has arrived in the post along with the badge.
Although don't necessarily like the design I will wear this badge with pride. I have been in involved with health and safety most of my life but actually working in the industry for the last 5/6 years and my aim was to become top of the profession. Only one more step to go.
Thanks to all who responded to this thread
Regards

I shared scepticism about 'the badge' until this morning when I visited a small firm to meet the directors for a discussion about enabling them to comply systematically with employment, health and safety law for the first time in the 12 years of the company's history.
My display of the CMIOSH and CIPD badges provided them with assurance that they were likely to get value for money. As far as I could establish, neither of the directors had ever had a business conversation before with a member of either institute. I believe that both badges provided sufficient evidence for them to realise that members of the IOSH and of the CIPD can be straightforward guys more concerned about helping them to run a profitable business legitimately, than they had imagined.
While both badges brought out smiles, they resonated with the values of those I wanted to influence today.

As a suggestion: Could the Chartered Member certificate also contain the title that most of us will display on our documentation and business cards e.g.
Chartered Safety & Health Practitioner.
The certificate giving credence to the title we will now identify with when asked your occupation.
Richard Spencer CMIOSH
Chartered Safety & Health Practitioner
