We have some matting that will be removed, and is filled with ceramic fibres. When the matts are removed or damaged they can release fibres into the air, causing a hazard. Posted By Frank Hallett Hi David Beacause the fibres can cause a range of eye, skin and lung disease from eye laceration and micro-punctures of the skin to scarring and encasulation in the lungs; the safest route is to adopt the same level of PPE & especially RPE as if for asbestos lagging. For those who wish to jump on this 'cos I've mentioned asbestos - Yes, I know that it doesn't have quite the same effects as asbestos - I didn't say that it did.
