Hi All,

Can anyone help me find a resource or previous risk assessments for Ceramic fibre filled matting.

We have some matting that will be removed, and is filled with ceramic fibres. When the matts are removed or damaged they can release fibres into the air, causing a hazard. Any help would be gratefully received.

Regards

David

David,

You should find some useful information on the European Ceramic Fibre Industry website:

Hi David

Beacause the fibres can cause a range of eye, skin and lung disease from eye laceration and micro-punctures of the skin to scarring and encasulation in the lungs; the safest route is to adopt the same level of PPE & especially RPE as if for asbestos lagging.

For those who wish to jump on this 'cos I've mentioned asbestos - Yes, I know that it doesn't have quite the same effects as asbestos - I didn't say that it did.

If you need any further help, feel able to contact me.
