Posted By jackw. Hi. off to visit my sister in the canaries next friday.. she is having problems with cockroaches. aparently not uncomon out there. Can any one advise on how to get rid of them..are there chemicals, sprays etc. that i could get here and take out. please no advice on carrying chemicals or contacting local officials..they are apparently useless.

Posted By Frank Hallett Jack - it's widely accepted that in the event of any form of global disaster it'll be the cockroaches that survive.
During past incarnations [not as a cockroach - see earlier thread] I came to ht econclusion that there were 2 primary remedies - create conditions elswhere that the roaches found more acceptable or simply crush or paint over them.

Word of caution. Stepping on 'roaches is not a good idea, as apparently in some species the females carry their eggs on their backs. All that stepping on them does is spread the roaches to your shoe cupboard!

Posted By Dave Wilson 'Blatta germanica' german Cockroach carries her egg case (ootheca) with her and this is deposited just before they are about to hatch or if she is about to die. Then loads of the little gits come out!
