Posted By Robert K Lewis I think this may be another colloquial term equivalent to "cripples" - no DDA offence meant. These were brackets that were attached to ladder rungs. If you erected two ladders each with a cripple at the same height you could, in theory place a work platform across to bridge the gap. They were a favorite of painters and gutter people and I have seen some around with the less reputable uPVC soffit and bargeboard installers. Best advice is to remind potential users that they live up to their name for significant numbers of users. Bob
