Has anyone had experienced training as fire risk assessor in compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. If so would you recommend the training and what was the time/cost etc.

John, the IFE (Institution of Fire Engineers)run an approved course. I have attended this course and it covers the RR(FS)O and provides a method of carrying out a fire risk assessment and completing a report based around the recommendations of PAS79. The course is based in Northern Ireland and cost approximately £400 for 4 days. By the time you have added other costs i.e flights, hotels, subsistence etc then you are probably up to £1000 in total. It is the only course that is recognised by the IFE. It is a fairly in depth course so you do need a reasonable understanding of fire to keep up with it. When I did it there were 10 persons ranging from senior fire officers and H&S managers to fire consultants.
