Does anyone know if farms are covered by the new fire regulations and in which category they fall. I have heard that they don't come into any category unless they have a secondary business like a farm shop or some such venture?

The Fire Safety Order does apply to farm buildings.

I have lifted the relevant section from the legislation and copied below:-

This Order does not apply in relation to —

d) fields, woods or other land forming part of an agricultural or forestry undertaking but which is not inside a building and is situated away from the undertaking's main buildings;

So as you can see it does not exclude the buildings that make up the farm.
