Does any one have any information on best practice in the scaffold industry regarding gaps in platforms or the work at height requirements?

I have always seen ply wood nailed down over the gaps, its about 5 mm think and you only need tacks just to keep them in place, you also need to think about when you strip the scaffold and also not going right through the scaffold board with a nails so a tack or small nail not more than 15mm will do. You would also need a bow saw handy to cut it to the right length

John, what size are these 'gaps'?.The spacing between the standards only allow for a two inch gap.As mentioned before ,these gaps can be covered. The working at height requirements are that if there is a danger of a person or material falling then there must be sufficient means in place as to prevent this from happening,Whether it be edge protection or a fully boarded scaffold platform,ALL risks must be assessed and reasonable measures put into place. What is the scaffold for?,can a M.E.W.P be used?,what about rope access? Good Luck .J.

Thankyou chaps. After doing a bit of research myself, I was told that driving nails or screws into scaffold boards would make them more susceptible to splitting or cracking and thus not satisfying the british standard criteria BS 2482. Also the plywood would present a tripping hazard to the platform. I have since been advised on a product specifically designed for this purpose. Ref: www.uniq-extrusions.co.uk BRLLIANT- Just what I was looking for, it solves all my problems.
