Posted By Fran Robinson-Holt Dear all, For those who have not read the member news section today http://www.iosh.co.uk/in....cfm?go=news.item&id=716 I just wanted to let you know about the sudden death of my father, Allan. Apart from being my dad I was fortunate to benefit from his expertise in my own work as I know many of you have. He was a regular contributor to the forums and enjoyed very much helping others. His sense of humour and knowledge will be greatly missed and I would like to thank you all for your kind words. Frances

Posted By ITK Sorry to hear that Fran, my condolences to you and your family.
I remember when I was a fresh faced NEBOSH Certificate student and I asked for advice on these forums on how to progress my career.
I received a response from Allan, I couldnt believe the man whose book I was studying from would take the time to respond to me.
Shows the kind of man he was, a top man.

Posted By Jane Blunt I would like to add my condolences.
Like many reading this thread I started my H&S career armed with his 'Principles'. The start of a career change that has been the best thing I ever did.
We were lucky enough to get him to come and give a presentation at the Branch which was brilliant.
He will be sorely missed by the safety community and many others

Posted By Richard Forster Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Allan's family and friends at this sad time.
Like Peter Leese (earlier in this thread) I also have a copy of Allan's Principles of health and safety at work signed by Allan and Huw Andrews - both were extremely encouraging when I met them as a fledgling Safety Officer.
Allan was a positive 'larger than life' character and I am sure that we can rely on IOSH to remember his huge contribution to occupational health and safety in a way that befits the man and his work.
With sympathy Richard

Posted By Neil Budworth Dear Frances,
Please accept my deepest condolences at this sad time.
It seems some how very fitting that this thread is becoming on on line tribute to Allan. I have been fortunate enough to work with Allan over many years through IOSH, he was a larger than life personality, who added colour to every meeting he attended.
He was always generous with his time and his advice and supported the chat forum, often mentoring people who were new to the profession.
I for one will miss Allan a great deal and my thoughts and best wishes go to Allan's family at this time.

Posted By chris campion Fran my sincerest condolences to you and your family on the loss of your Dad and my mate.
Allan was the "gaffer" for two years 1999 -2000 when I was the EHS director for BLL in Asia Pacific and it was with real trepidation that I took over his role when he left -pretty big boots to fill!
We toured and audited the world together, had plenty of fun but he never forgot the main game which was setting things to right and ensuring that people everywhere had their basic rights to a safe workplace provided and upheld. Plenty of people downunder and in Asia will miss his wit, intelligence and committment.
