Dear all, I have to devise a method statement for an electrical installation job. Most of the work will involve working at a height of about 10 metres installing electrical conduit and equipment on a concrete ceiling in a very large hangar. The intention is to use portable scaffold for the job, which I think will last for 3/4 months. I am most concerned about the continual erection, dismantling, and moving of the scaffold and the fall protection arrangements. Does anyone please have something readymade that I could adapt?
Best regards,
Chris

Have you considered using a MEWP?

Chris,
For that duration I would use fixed scaffolding, even if only gang planked in the required areas, with kickboards and handrailing etc.

Will the hanger be used during said works, and has a system been devised to allocate areas; or....do you have Carte blanche access with no active consideration to either person or other movements below you, due to protective measures to not permit access to other users?

Hi Chris,
If it were me I would go for the MEWP option so long as the users receive adequate training. Apart from the safety aspects you may want to consider that a MEWP will be less time-consuming than messing about with scaffolds. I have a comprehensive risk assessment available for a MEWP which is yours if you email me.
Regards,
Joe
