Can someone tell me if a statutory inspection is still required on a compressor if there is no air receiver?
Thanks

S.O,
Forgive my ignorance, but doesnt that make it just a pump? If thee is no "stored" compressed air then its not going to go pop, so little use in inspecting it?

I know I wasn't sure. I wasn't sure if they have a small internal air receiver or as you say, are they just a pump.
Thanks for your help.

S.O,
even if it did have a small internal air reciever, the capacity of it would be below the threshold for inspection anyway, but I still think its a pump!!

I would refer back to the ACOP/Guidance (don't have my copy handy and don't remember which it is) on pressure systems. I used to be involved in SCUBA diving and the compressors we used, were three phase. The internal "compression chambers" (sorry don't remember the correct term) because of the high pressure we were using (over 207bar) meant they were covered by the regs even when there is no bottle bank attached (receiver in most systems).
Having said that I doubt you will be dealing with such high pressures so your assumption that its a "pump" is probably correct.

The answer is - it depends on the type of compressor. Just because there isnt an external receiver it doesnt mean it is just a pump.
If it is a rotary screw compressor with an internal vessel then it will come under statutory inspection.
The best thing to do is to identify the machine type by brand, model and serial number and check with the manufacturer or the British Compressed Air Society.
