Hi Guys;
Does anyone have a Veterinary health & safety policy I can have access to and or other information relevant to the hazards this industry is confronted with on a daily basis.
Regards
Phil

Briefly - typical veterinary issues:
-COSHH - control of veterinary drugs, disinfectants, anaesthetics, infection from sharps/bites/contaminated fluids/tissues
-Manual handling - large animals (especially large unconscious dogs!), bags of food etc
-Livestock handling (for large-animal practices, and use of handling equipment such as cattle crushes
-Lone working (including dealing with potentialy agressive customers - and I don't mean the animals!)
-Ionising Radiation from x-ray sets(must ensure have an RPA, local rules in place etc)
-Autoclaves(subject to PSSR)
-Slips/trips
-Driving for work
Security is also an issue, it's unbeleivable what some may do to get their hands on drugs/needles!
There is no direct guidace on the HSE website, but if you look at the agriculture pages, there is some useful information there. There is also new guidance on how to write H&S Policies for Small/Medium enterprises.
