I have just seen the film about the Russian asbestos mines and how the banning of asbestos exports into Europe on health grounds is a Western conspiracy.
More evidence that the perception of health and safety (just like most things in the world) is under political and media control.

I saw this article and became more thankful that UK Gov't has not been bought-off by the pro-asbestos lobby that appears to be led by the Canadians.
Certainly a wonder material but the cost is just too high.

When I was in Ukraine in December 2005 and subsequently investigating levels of imports into the CIS, I discovered the scandal that new entrants to the EU who were now banned from using asbestos were simply exporting their residual stocks.
