I have just seen the film about the Russian asbestos mines and how the banning of asbestos exports into Europe on health grounds is a Western conspiracy. More evidence that the perception of health and safety (just like most things in the world) is under political and media control. Lucy

I saw this article and became more thankful that UK Gov't has not been bought-off by the pro-asbestos lobby that appears to be led by the Canadians. Certainly a wonder material but the cost is just too high.

Thanks for posting this. The link to the slides showing young children working in the asbestos mine in India are particularly sobering.

When I was in Ukraine in December 2005 and subsequently investigating levels of imports into the CIS, I discovered the scandal that new entrants to the EU who were now banned from using asbestos were simply exporting their residual stocks. P
