Hi All We are using a manbasket to de-rig components, as it is the only realistic method. We have obviously implemented all the practicable safety requirements as possible and in compliance to BS 7121-1 to ensure safety. However I have a question about the suitability of anchor points for manbaskets - currently we use a round sling attached to the crane's main hook (has safety latch) and then attach the fall arrest lanyard to this, in addition we require the technicians to apply the work positioning lanyard to the framework of the manbasket. My question is, is this a safe, sufficient and suitable means of attaching the fall arrest lanyard, and is this acceptable practice as I can not find any legislation / guidance about this specific issue. Thanks for advice in advance Ben

Ben There is nothing wrong with your method of attaching your lanyard to the crane hook in this method it is tried and tested and passed on many occasions HSE scrutiny. My concern is if I am reading it properly you then attach restraint lanyards to the basket? If this is the case were the basket chains ring or accessories fail you would then have a basket falling to the ground with a person or persons secured to it and the crane hook what would give first? And no you will not find any guidance to this, within the Industry some people attach to the crane hook and some to the basket with the fall arrest lanyard. It is a difficult situation and I only hope I have assisted in some way.(Provided I have understood your post properly) Regards Alex There are other points to consider like Rescue Plans Suspension Trauma and the likes.

Not 100% clear on the question, Ben but like Alex said, if you are attached to two dfferent points, something's got to give. Can't see any requirement for fall arrest if technichian's are working inside a manbasket with a suitable anchor point. Work positioning/restraint would be the better choice. Maybe a further explanation is required mate.
