Hi, In my organisation we set H&S related KPI. Examples are; Number of completed internal audits Reduction in number of reportable accidents Reduction in lost time accidents Number of completed management safety tours % of workforce trainined in relevant EHS subjects (ie: manual handling training, fire awareness etc) Number of risk assessments reviewed % of actions generated by risk assessment completed Increase in pro-active reporting by the workforce. Figures for will have to be incorportated into all of the above KPI, these will depend on your organisation (eg. 2009 we had 600 pro-active safety reports from employees, our target for 2010 was set at 625). The above list is just a small example of a range of KPI which we monitor. If you need anymore help PM me and I can send some information over to you. regards

In our organization we have a different assessment for the monthly submission of individual (Safety managers, engineers, officers) KPI evaluation Each of them have to submit their KPI to the corporate HSE Dept database to the following attendance details (Full/partial/average etc) submission on time Timely submission of the staff safety performance Weekly/monthly statistics, report Unsafe condition noticed NCR issued through the client/conslutant/govt agency Warning letter issued to the site staff Site HSE meeting conducted Suggestion/near miss report TBT effectiveness Key promotional activities kaizen submitted working on routine time schedule etc....................... A consolidated individual evaluation with self assessment marksheet shall submitted to the department and and the top management shall make another evalauation based on their performance

The contributions by all did not consider individual personnel HSE KPI, this is also a vital approach in ensure every one take ownership of his/her safety and that of others may be affected by his/her activities. In our organization we have a different assessment: For all employee /contractor employee HSE KPI is set these include No of Hazard identified and corrected 2/month and 12 in a fiscal year. No. of safety moment shared, No. of Safety initiative introduce within its team. On Projects target are set in the safety plan considering both the leading and and lagging indicators which is a responsibility of the project manager with support from the HSE officers on the project. On the corporate level KPI evaluation Monthly HSE meeting with 80% attendance submission of safety performance last Tuesday of every month Unsafe condition noticed NCR issued through the clients / regulatory agency Incident reported within 24hours on to database Active zero last time Injury LTI LTIR of <0.01 Quarterly HSE Leadership meeting I hope this is OK to start with. A good KPI to include is 'Safety tours carried out by Senior Managers' Not safety inspections - just a general site walkabout by senior managers where they, amongst their normal duties, comment on how 'site safety' looks to them Each senior manager [inc CEO and MD] should have a target of safety tours to complete - say 1 or 2 a month. It helps show their 'safety commitment' to the troops - and they might even ensure that corrective actions take place!

I would always contend that good KPIs will be linked to the objectives set out in your H&S policy statement. If there are no objectives that could give rise to measurable indicators then perhaps it is also time for a policy revision! Bob
