A contractor on our site is using dump trucks with virtually no tread, I have highlighted this however there seems to be no legal limit for the tread on these tyres, if I had legal guidance on this I could point to it. can anyone point me in the right direction?

I don't believe there is any legal standard for vehicle tyres in an off road situation. However, under PUWER there is a requirement to ensure any equipment is safe to use, no tread on dumper tyres, in an off road situation is not safe (you could contact vehicle manufacturer). A point to note is that if the tyres are substandard are the vehicles safe- regular servicing (brakes, hydraulic hoses etc), are the drivers competent (I would suspect not if driving poorly maintained vehicles). Hope this of some use.
