Vitasafety, a very good idea. The only element for my part is to let members who are out of work attend free so they can network as well as attend the speakers conferences.

Vitasafety, yes I think this is s a good idea as well. Is IOSH listening though? Freelance, I see what you mean about the networking for unemployed members of IOSH though; more should be done to help them.

More should be done to help the unemployed, why? Do they not get help or am I living in a different world to you. Free places should be given to those who are employed so they can network instead of having to pay the high prices being charged.

Wonder if farrell has ever been unemployed? What help, the help jobcentres give you is normally absolutely rubbish. Know a couple of friends who got made redundant and apart from getting the bare minimum dole money got no retraining or help at all.

Farrel, I have already mentioned both IOSH members on low wages and IOSH members who are unemployed. Given that these unemployed people are members of this Institution I think it reasonable for them to get some help from the very Institution that they are members of to assist them in getting back in to work. I personally don’t think that is unreasonable.

Let's say the whole 2 day event costs £500,000 (not icluding of course accommodation and food which the individual delegate pays themselves) then if you divide this sum by 37,000 you get £13.51p. Add this sum to the annual subscription and we can all go to the bash for just under £14 quid. Now of course lets say only 10,000 members attend (5,000 per day) IOSH make a profit on subscriptions of 27,000 x £13.51 = £364,864.86p which they should then use to cut the cost of their courses and other areas of exhorbitant cost. But of course (again) the venue would not take 5000 members (on top of all the exhibitions etc / and others attending) so IOSH would make even more profit and could cut costs by loads more. Rich Problem solved!!!
