Weather update - or - should I go or should I stay?

I was thinking that as we are from all over the UK and Republic of Ireland, and lots of other places besides, wouldn't it be useful if we used this forum to update the weather status, handy for those of us who travel during the course of our work and especially useful with the recent Arctic weather in mind.
I'll start it off - Wirral peninsula, Merseyside, cold, rain yesterday so ice all today and same expected tomorrow (Monday). Still some snow on the ground.
I'm interested in the motorways M6 and M74 as I'm due in Glasgow on Tuesday morning.

Plenty of snow around the North West, Chris but no probs with the M6 (maybe ice if you're going up early morning)
I'm in Conwy tomorrow before 9 so will have to leave Manchester before the milkman gets here. I delivered a course in Bellshill last Saturday and there was snow a plenty but the M6 & M74 were both clear.
Safe travelling to all who need to do so.

Is it not supposed to be a safety forum of views, topics and discussion points for safety professionals?
You can always search BBC weather forecast and type in the place or Postcode and the site comes up with all sorts of weather stuff, including a forecast.

Any info shared is of use to someone, don't get to picky it was meant in a helpful manner. Anyway I will get up about 9 have breakfast then look out of the window and if its cold or even snowy I will turn the heating up and stay warm. Redundant in April of this year so no nead to go to work until the weather gets better anyway. Will think of you all.

Point taken guys, we have weather on the Isle of Man.
My road has some frost but I should be okay for travelling to Douglas in the morning [2 miles]. could be a bit dicey when I walk Spike at 0700 hours as the path on Saddlestone still has ice. I noticed today Mount Greaby still as snow on it [I hope the weather stays bad I hope to walk it with Spike next weekend].
Bob - going back to work in better weather sounds the best idea.

Avoid Fife, we had another inch or two overnight and it is still coming down heavy, the A92 is down to one lane and blooming horrendous. Took me an hour and half to get my 20 minute journey into work this morning.

Tend to agree with Steve's original view on this - i.e. consult the BBC weather site or similar.
And before I get shot down in flames for all the good reasons mention previously for needing to consider the weather before travellling: What use is yesterdays weather to me as covered in the first posts above, and if full coverage for the country is given in answers how am I going to find the response that is relevant to me?!!!

The only way that it might work if the mods allowed a specific forum for it and then had a thread for each area. This way you could quickly see if say the Devon thread had a new update, and even receive an email about it!!! However this can already be done via the MET office, I even get tweets about the weather, in addition to a BBC forecast display on my phone, and my RAC app warns me of problems on my intended route. :) Is it Friday yet?

Asking what the weather is like from people actually on site seems like a reasonable and sensible suggestion. Weather reports on the main web sites don't generally give local road conditions. Fine on the main roads but the smaller ones can often be difficult - M8 passable but come off it on to the smaller roads in Glasgow and you're likely to encounter problems. Heavy snow falling here at the moment and its been falling for last two hours.

OK I take on board all points made but lets be sensible - there is no way I would look at a forecast or actual report on Sunday for a trip on Tuesday, how thick does anyone think I am.
If you don't want to use this thread then just don't look at it, at least it is showing some good on the spot reports already.
Some of us do not get weather reports on our phones and I don't use tweeter so those that wish to carry on please do so - those that don't just stay away and keep your negative thoughts to yourselves.
Rant over.
By the way I'll be looking tonight for the length of motorways between here and Glasgow. Thanks to all.
Very cold and icy on the Wirral - but very nice to look at.

Chris - hope you took my advice!! My friend was stuck for 15 hrs in traffic yesterday - got home at 3 this morning!!!
I'd love to know who done the risk assessment for west central Scotland traffic management yesterday!!

FH Thank I did take your advice, still at home, think I'll do some Christmas shopping instead. It appears that the roads agency are blaming the weather forecasters but they are defending themselves. Lots of school kids stayed at school overnight, don't know if that's an adventure or a horror story. Red Ken, thanks I did look at it. Now in danger of having so many sources of travel advice - enough to take all my time just reading weather reports and no time left for travelling. I still think it would be helpful if we just say what its like where we are. Still cold in Wirral, -6C but rising. ice on the pavements. Bins not empltied yesterday - that's another story/

Don't remind me of the bin issues from last winter.
I live in Liverpool city centre, no collections for about 3 weeks, street i live in is in business district and wasn't gritted once over the whole period. BUT, the council gritted the shopping area which was nice, if you didn't break your neck getting there.

Hows this helpful, it's like a 'Fred the weather report' from the Albert Dock, one time he looked out of the window and said it must be raining as people have umberellas up. It seems that we are mow stating the obvious.
Just in case I am from Liverpool and this morning at 5.15am it was cold with ice on windscreens 'not mine covered it with a cloth'. I will let you know sometime today if it' remains cold or you could check this yourself by looking out of the window and if people have big coats on hats, scarfs etc. then the bets are it is cold.
I don't really think this works, watch the news or put the radio on to get weather reports.

I am a tryer.
I'm off to Glasgow on Tuesday, the trip I cancelled last week 'cos the weather got a little Arctic.
Any weather reports for my trip up the M6 and M74 will be appreciated.
Those of you who think this is pointless just don't read any helpful comments. Don't even open this topic.
Its pointless reading something that is useful to some and then criticising those who are being helpful.

travelling to work in Liverpool at 5.15, very pleasant out today, not even cold. 07.20 just looked out of my office window people with big coats on may be getting colder or they may have a cold or something so they have wrapped up warm.

News Flash, noticed gardening section have gritted in some areas signs of ice, oh my god what are we going to do will I ever get home. end news flash.
