During recent inspections with clients I have come across 2 cases that I think sohuld be subject to LOLER inspection and controls but can not find specific mention on L113

1) is the tipping body on a small collection vehicle e.g. type with a cage at the back for collecting rubbish and scrap

2) in the arm of an excavator shovel

Should these be subject to inspection and where would we source a competent inspector?

Is there a list provided anywhere that deals with items that may be required undr LOLER but are not obvious candidates?

I agree with the other comments regarding point one.

With regard to point two I am not quite sure whether you are refering to a loading shovel or excavator.

An excavator is only deemed to require examination under LOLER if it is to be used for cranage duties, ie equiped with a suitable lifting point eye, hook or fork attachment and other equipment so as to satisfy regulation 7 of LOLER. Excavators not so equipped fitted with a bucket are for excavation duties which are not considered to be a lifting operation and as such fall under the auspices of PUWER.

Similarly a loading shovel is only covered by loler if fitted with a suitable lifting point or forks, use with a bucket for movement of spoil, grain etc is not considered to be a lifting operation.
