Hi Safety Butterfly We also have FLT's on long term hire. These are routinely serviced by the supplier. With regards to LOLER, these are part of our testing schedule which is carried out by Allianz. My understanding is that if they are lifting people then they should be inspected 6 monthly. If they are not then annual would suffice, however insurers may request it more frequently depending on use. In answer to your question, as long as the insurers are competent to carry out the inspections and provide necessary reports, you should be fine with the 6 monthly inspections, so long as any Defects are put good. Butterfly, yes as Mat was saying, the inspections that your insurers are doing will be the statutory exams, and they ensure you comply with LOLER if any findings are rectified immediately. You mention chatting with 'supplier', are they hired? As well as LOLER you still also need the the normal servicing to check brakes, fluids, lights etc

Hi, LOLER checks on an FLT is every 12 months or more frequent if required by insurance or company policy. As previously stated if you lift people its every 6 months. Don't forget that the servicing covers PUWER.

And of course it's all about what YOU assess to be sufficient and suitable. We only do it every 6 months because it's a large 5ton machine, often worked to it's limit, uses it's extensions about half of the time, and it costs £50 for an inspection. So would be nonsense to try and save £50 a year and risk a fault developing that none of us are qualified to detect. Do it every month if you want!
