What level of training would be required if I wanted to move into this line of work. i.e. 1 day, 2day etc.. Course or would it have to be advanced. Thanks in anticipation of your responses!

Do you mean if you wanted to move into CDM-C work? Any designer or builder of construction work is in the CDM line of work. If you do, the specific training to be CDM-C is in my view the least significant aspect. I think APS will put you on their register after a three-day course and a multiple choice exam (something like that). I don't think that makes you a good CDM-C though - at best it lets you know what a good CDM-C needs to be.

The paperwork and the exam is the easy bit to be a Good CDM Coordinator means you need a lot of both construction and people skills, not to mention a fairly extensive knowledge of H&S. Good luck as I find it a fantastic job.

My construction skills are rusty, but I'd like to think I have an extensive knowledge of health and safety.

If your Construction skills are just rusty, I would suggest that reading the CDM ACOP which can be downloaded FOC from the HSE website might be enough. Otherwise you look at the NEBOSH Construction Certificate - depending on when you did previous qualifications you may only have to do the NCC 2 and the practical. If you are looking at undertaking work as a CDM-C then look at the APS website and go on a CDM-C course, I would also further recommend you err on the side of caution and try and work alongside an experienced CDM-C on a small project first. Hope all goes well, Regards Clive
