We have a central heating system in our offices fed by a gas boiler which is serviced and certified gas safe annually. Our workshop has 4 ceiling mounted gas fired warm air heaters. My question is do these workshop heaters fall under the same gas safe requirements as the central heating boiler?

ctd Commercial and domestic gas servicing & inspections The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 impose duties on users of gas systems to ensure they are safe and suitable for use. These duties include taking responsibility for the annual servicing and inspection of all in-service gas boilers, fires, heaters and any other type of gas burning equipment. Regardless of the size, type or location of such appliances and systems, it is mandatory to ensure that they are serviced, often in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications, at least once a year. Failure to comply with this legislation may result in prosecution. Make sure the gas enginer who services the heaters is qualified to do so - not same qualifications as servicing a domestic type boiler.

ctd You don't need a CP12 that is provided to land lords of domestic properties who have gas appliances supplied to the tenant - boiler / cooker etc. You need to ensure your gas fired equipment is in good working order, this entails having them regularly serviced by a qualified registered gas engineer. The time frequency depends on a multitude of things - such as manufacturer's recommendations, environment they are located, how often they are used, age of appliance. When they are serviced they are / should be given a safety check as well, checking gas pressure, general condition. You should also have all of the gas pipes in the building checked at the same time. Most businesses have this done annually, but I have know it to be carried out every 3 months.
