Can anybody name 4 external agencies (EXLCUDING enforcement agencies) that may have an influence on fire safety in the workplace?
Yes its a NEBOSH test question..I'm doing the fire cert soon as work offered me the course for free....I already have the Diploma, so surely I should know this!...I can only think of 2..insurance companies and maybe BSI...cant find the answers in my text books...
I think I'm going to shoot myself..

I don't know the actual answer, but is the question worded agencies ? As the insurance company is not an agency is it does the question say " external body"
But to throw a suggestion in ISO 14001 or OHSAS18001 assessment company's both will look at fire arrangements.

The question is worded as follows..
Excluding enforcement agencies, identify four external agencies that may have an influence on fire safety in the work place.
Utilities companies? Forensics? hmmmm

Insurance companies are included, local authorities as they permit building work to go ahead etc

not sure you would class it as an 'agency' but certainly another interested party would be the Landlord.

Thanks
I also had the environmental agency as an enforcing agency. It was really just the non enforcing agencies I was struggling with...
Exams in 4 weeks lol...maybe I should have started studying earlier..

We all seem to be agreed on the translation of the question, anyone else here think it could have been worded better?

AGENCY really means organisation.................so........... NOT EA or Fire Brigade (bioth are enforcers) but include Trade bodies like the Fire Protection Association; Trade Unions; Standards bodies such as BSI; Insurance companies; Fire consultants and risk assessors; Landlords; Other occupants for multi occupancy..................and so on.

An ambiguously worded NEBOSH question… the very idea!

Try these few:
Trade unions
Trade associations
Accreditation Bodies (LRQA etc.
Parliament (changes to regulations)
EU (as above)
Clients

I am not even going to attempt the first 'agencies' question, as NEBOSH need to be a bit more specific when setting questions, But as far as Enforcement agencies go, here's four:
1) Local Authority Fire Service - Most fire safety enforcement
2) HSE - Construction/demolition sites, nuclear premises, on ships under construction or undergoing repair.
3) CPIG (Crown Premises Inspection Group) - for Crown premises
4) DFRMO (Defence Fire Risk Management Organisation) for premises on defence sites - whether operated by the MOD or not

Could it possibly be the agencies that offer fire risk assessor registers?
IFE, Warrington Fire, FPA, AN Other?
