No need to appoint PC or PD if there is only one contractor, unless "3" below applies, i.e. it is a notifiable prohect. Key changes of the new CDM Regulations 2015—CITB infographic version http://www.citb.co.uk/do...ographic%20-%20final.pdf 1. All projects must have: • workers with the right skills, knowledge, training and experience • contractors providing appropriate supervision, instruction and information • a written construction phase plan 2. Project where more than one contractor is involved (domestic or non-domestic) must have 1 above plus: • principal designer and principal contractor must be appointed • a health and safety file 3. If work is scheduled to: • last longer than 30 working days and • have more than 20 workers working simultaneously at any point in the project • OR exceeds 500 person days All of 1 and 2 above plus • Client must notify project to HSE

No PC or PD if there is only one contractor full stop. That is, it's irrelevant whether it's notifiable or not. However, if there is more than one contractor, the same party can be both PC and PD.

Agree with achrn on this.
Notification and appointment of duty holders are two different things but it can get confusing...
Mikecarr - achrn has answered your question. BUT if it was a site with multiple contractors, as long as the single person, company etc is competent then as far as I am aware they would be able to hold multiple duties. Certainly for a company, think about a large construction company that may have a "design" department and a "construction management" department. Easy to hold 2 duties in that vein.
