The answer to this is not neccesarily a straightforward one; I'd recommend reading some of the following resources which provide lots of useful information and guidance on asset management. The IAM (Institute of Asset Management) have published as very useful guide on the topic. PAS 55 and ISO 55000 may also prove useful.

Hope this helps.

Consider a need to prepare documents. A quill, pencil, fountain pen, ball point pen and a typewriter will all do the job effectively, in skilled hands.

Using a PC may be more efficient.

My friends MGB(GT) gets him from his house to his place of work but my modern car would do it in a more fuel-efficient and cleaner way.

Dictionary definitions

* Effective = "successful in producing a desired or intended result"

* Efficient = "achieving maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort or expense."

Not sure we need much more than this?

Effectively means delivering what the end user expects but failing to take into account spurious targets imposed by an irrelevant third party.

Efficiently means failing to delivery anything the end user expects but fully taking into account any spurious targets imposed by an irrelevant third party.

This is taken from “The true meaning of words and newspeak: a guide to double think by I.M. Weasel “
