If an employee is injured as part of a sporting activity at work (for whatever reason that may be charity, mandatory or recreational). Would you consider an absence from work because of the injury as a LTI or possibly RIDDOR?

That very much depends on whether it is charity, mandatory or recreational!

It can happen in a "team building" context.

Armed Forces, policy is to atend/participate in 3 physical education sessions a week. Normal set up is, Tues + Thurs morning, Wed afternoon. Other sessions can be taken if required.

Armed Forces/police etc aside....(I did 12yrs in the Infantry) I was just curious as to what job it would be mandatory for Joe Punch Clock to take part in sport?

If an injury is sustained during play or through the rough and tumble of the sport then it is not RIDDOR. If it were due to a poor pitch or a premises defect issue then it probably woild be reportable.
