Hey! I run a small business and I’m looking into getting a cold room installed. I’ve found some promising companies that specialise in walk-in fridges in UK, but honestly, I’m wondering if this is something I could actually build myself 😅. Could you help guide me through the process?

Thanks, Alan

Not even subtle. The idea that someone would build a walk-in fridge themselves is one for a scientist or engineer in a laboratory, except perhaps for someone in a remote location where modern technology is hard to come by.

Good morning firesafety.

Good question.

If you read the Forum Rules, you will see that they have some words about Moderation and even set a person specification for a Moderator.

Unfortunately, the last people meeting that specification resigned in 2018 and have yet to be replaced.

So, it appears that since then IOSH staff have been occasionally doing some moderation and that has included taking down spam posts, but not consistently.

Hence, a post that would have been removed within 48 hours (usually MUCH quicker) in days past can now remain in place for a considerable time or be left alone completely.

Peter

Nobody builds walk in fridges/freezers in labs themselves. This is definitely a job for a specialist. And even they screwup sometimes…

So many refrigerants, so many specialisms, so many opportunities for the enthusiastic amateur to kill or maim themself and others.

AK - I typed "mad scientist" before amending to read "scientist or engineer"! Thought some readers might be aghast at reference to the "mad scientist" who has been part of historical culture.

I do agree that even in laboratory conditions, those responsible would be looking to ensure that the appropriate specialist knowledge was available and implemented.
