NEBOSH………… No seriously it is NEBOSH. Many will rant and rave about how wrong I am, how there are more options than NEBOSH blah, blah, blah. I think “conflicting views” on the subject is an understatement. Look at it this way. A bloke down the pub once told me that, once upon a time in New York, a young lady worked in a hotel. She cleaned rooms and she was not very good at sweeping up feathers etc from carpets and she was threatened with the sack, oh dear…. So she attached a desk fan to a pillow case and fashioned an inlet funnel system to some pipes. Hey presto the vacuum cleaner was thus invented. Sadly she did not patent the idea, someone else had a similar idea and that boys and girls is why a vacuum cleaner is often called a Hoover and not a Miss Miggins. NEBOSH are the “Hoovers” of the H/S world, they may not be the first in the field however coma it’s a globally recognised brand name with a well respected qualification. You say Dip-NEBOSH and people sit up and pay attention, you say Dip-outermongolia and people say what the? Read the adverts, some employers just ask for “NEBOSH” qualified staff, full stop. Sure the argument is that maybe they need educating, but, the answer to your question remains “NEBOSH” every time. OK it’s hard and you gotta really want it, but it’s well worth it when you get there. Good hunting and tight lines, my friend.

Latchy, In all honesty the only qualification employers really recognise or have ever heard of is NEBOSH. It's a tough slog, but yes it is worth it. kdrum. Fingers crossed for your Unit D, the final hurdle!! Good luck.

Once again i would agree with all the comments that people have said about Nebosh etc , because i have my Nebosh Diploma and also my AIEMA in Environmental management and in November will be doing my Nebosh Diploma in Environmental Management. I have a number of years experience in the Health and Safety field and in managing manufacturing teams and been with the same company for 30 yrs but believe me its still" not what you know but who you know" and do you play golf with the bosses.

Yep, I totally understand where you are coming from. Its a difficult discussion to have on a forum, it`s something that really requires a face to face discussion. What I would highlight though, is that I have completed NEBOSH, and the NVQ Level 4, now I am looking to complete an environmental qualification. I have decided to do distance learning degree, title of the degree is: Environmental, Safety, and Health Management. I have decided this option because when you apply for jobs, they often ask for, degree level qualification. They are now asking for, as a minimum, AIEMA cert, so I thought, whats the point of doing a NEBOSH Environmental Dip, when I can have an actual degree, with environmental management included in its course contents to a level 6 any way.
