In the absence of any immediately obvious reference material on HSE web page - can anyone give any pointers to criteria to use when placing a small gymnasium within a workplace. I'd like to see something to guide me on space, space between equipment, ventilation and so on. I'd be really grateful for a steer on this.

We have a small gym, and as far as I'm aware we haven't used any guidance (not sure if its available), we just used shared experience and 'common sense' - yes, I know its a cliche... The machines all have a foot or so between them, and some circulation space in the middle of the room allows safe access/egress, we have some changing rooms nearby, a water cooler and some scales and other bits and pieces. We do get a specialist company to come in every year to service the equipment, and have a simple gym induction/disclaimer for users to complete. My notes of caution are around overcrowding, and people bringing in bits of fitness equipment from home.

Perhaps not entirely what you're after, but it may be of use... http://www.sportengland....rtBy=alpha&pageNum=5 Click the pdf titled 'Fitness and Exercise Spaces'. Hope it helps. Scott
