I don't knwo about you lot, but we find it so hard trying to find good H&S staff in the South East, often agencies are too expensive and also rarely have the right candidate.

Does anyone know of a good service or H&S forum where you can advertise without having to fork out large sums of money?

Hi Wesley,

What do you consider to be excessive?

Like most things, you get what you pay for. If the agency is not providing the calibre of candidate you need, are you giving them the right info in the first place?

No......not at all. That is not my intention in the slightest and have used this site for many years and have never done so.

Keith - Be fair.

At this rate NOONE will be able to post apart from the Moderators... and as scintillating as I'm sure that would be... would slightly defeat the object of this board?

Good point Rebecca.

Also why would I advertise my services to a load of consultants who sell the services? I would rather spend my time advertising to people who need help with H&S.

Wesley

Might not be the intention but it shows how easy it can be used to get round the present rules and no I am not accusing you of this.

Rebecca

I am being fair, we agree to abide by the rules of this forum but if someone makes it possible to identify a service then what is the difference between this and advertising a vacancy direct.

GJB,

It's called the 'Careers Forum'... so I'm assuming it's something to do with jobs?

Well it definitely used to be... now it seems like a cold and empty place...

Keith,

I have to be careful how I phrase this!.. But I am allowed to say that I am available for work, yet cannot advertise my services?!! I also cannot put my company name in my Username address... in case, shock horror, I get some work from it!

I am available for work and therefore hope that prospective customers will contact me via my e.mail address.

Is this a case of 'getting round the rules'? I think not, personally.

Wesley - You have my email address...

Keith - I think the fact we're on an IOSH forum suggests we might all provide services connect to Health & Safety. If things carry on like this on here, then soon we'll all be known only as numbers and unable to discuss anything which may disclose the services we require...

GJB.

You have answered my initial comments mostly as you say "what you can and cannot" put on this forum.

Rebecca

I would totaly agree with your last comment I can remenber the days when you could both offer yourself in the employment field and also read and respond to adverts for potential employees. Unfortunatly this is no longer but until things change (which in my oppinion should) then we are stuck with the present guidlines and should abide by them.

This Thread has been removed as it has deviated from the original posting and contained complaints regarding the use of the Careers Forum.

The question as to who, what and how can post on this Careers Forum has been made clear over many postings and individual e-mails to those that have breached the AUGs.

Neal Clark posted this Thread back on 4th July:

The change to the careers forum has already been discussed at length since it was first announced on 1 June.

If you or any other IOSH member would like to discuss this policy decision further, I would invite you to start a thread in the IOSH Internal Business Forum.

In case you're not sure, you can request access to this forum by first logging into the discussion forums, and then selecting 'members forums' in the section links panel on the right of your screen.

On the next screen you will be given a description of the available members forums. Just click 'join here' next to the appropriate forum and fill out the short application form.

Please note that we are required to verfiy the membership status of all applications to these forums, and this is a manual process. As a result there may be a short delay in your application and you receiving confirmation that your application was successful.

Once you have received this confirmation, the members forum will be accessible from your 'my forums' list the next time you login.

Alternatively, you can email your comments to us directly at webteam@iosh.co.uk and we will respond to you personally in due course.

So to sum up:

As an individual you can post a message with a reasonable length (say A4) description of yourself and attributes. You must allow your e-mail link to be live.

In responding, an interested party should privately e-mail that person making contact, giving details and seeking further contact. You can post a 'bland' message on the Forum advising them to check their e-mail.

We would encourage individuals to post occassional updates letting others know how you are getting on in your search, but you cannot name the company concerned.

When someone from a company, Agency etc is posting a general discussion response or a response as above they cannot name their company, post there e-mail address, indicate they are an Agency or use a User Name that projects advertising. The live e-mail link may well contain the company name which we accept at this time.

Try headhunting, be proactive as opposed to reactive. That's pretty much what agencies do, react to requirements. When shortages exist it makes sense for them to fill the easy jobs. However going direct to people and canvassing your opportunity will be more effective and less time consuming if done correctly.
