Posted By Uday How would an individual person without any professional or specialized knowledge know whether the fire blanket he is using IS AN ASBSETOS fire blanket or a NON asbestos version.

Posted By Andy Uday, I presume that there are no manufacturers or suppliers details on the container/blanket. Can you find out who purchased it and when? This is the only suggestion I have, I am sure someone out there in the forum will be able to better advise. Regards Andy.

Posted By Robert K Lewis Alternatively assume it is asbestos and dispose of it as though it were crocidolite. New ones are non-asbestos. Bob

Posted By Andy I think the last two responses hit the nail on the head..... If the only way to be sure with an old blanket is to have it analysed v the cost of a new one @ £20-30, I personally wouldnt waste any more time debating it, if the risk assessment identifies the need for one then obviously it would be easier and the same cost simply to purchae a new one...

Posted By Jeff Manion You may need to consider that it is asbestos until proven otherwise. Cost per sample range from £15 to £100 + VAT. To renew / replace with non-asbestos product (costs unknown) may be acceptable. However, if conditions are found to be asbetos when used, is fibre release acceptable against prevention of fire? You will have to decide - risk assessments etc. With the potential replacement asbetos regulations you will have duty to identify and manage at asbestos materials - so consider a survey for location from either an individual with a P.cert in asbestos surveying or UKAS recognised organisaton for the sample procedures. At end of day - be aware of disposal if asbestos - you should not place in normal waste.
