I am currently working with a national chain of retail/repair franchises and rather than reinvent the wheel(!) I wonder if any one has any safe systems of work etc or reference documents to assist us in establishing risk assessment/safe systems of work process. Any leads gratefully received.

I don't know if they are still current but there are two HSE publications you could try and get - Health and Safety in Tyre and Exhaust Fitting Centres (HSG62) and Health and Safety in Motor Vehicle Repair (HSG67).

Liz,

HSE has recently been releasing new material for Motor vehicle repair, some of it free.

Try searching HSE books (www.hsebooks.co.uk)

Signum Publications do a H&S Manual for the motor trade which contains a lot of the information you would require
